Delays Suu Kyi's visit to Indonesia, Bangladesh expels Rohingya people



A32NEWS - Myanmar's de facto leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, on Monday (28/11/2016), delay the trip to Indonesia following protests in Jakarta to defend the Rohingya minority.

In addition, the security breach is thought to be one reason for the delay. However, suspicions about safety is disputed by the authorities of Myanmar, reported Agence France-Presse.

Police in Jakarta has menggangalkan a plan to attack the embassy of Myanmar, which is expected to be done as a protest against the persecution of the Rohingya.

Thousands of Rohingya who fled the violence in Myanmar have flooded the border between Rakhine State, Myanmar, Bangladesh in the past week.

Rohingya ethnic minority runaway occurs because of claims of rape, torture, and killings by security forces, but denied by the government of Myanmar.

Suu Kyi, who won the Nobel Peace Prize, has faced international criticism after a UN official said, there have been attempts of ethnic cleansing of Rohingya in Myanmar.

Government Suu Kyi has denied the allegations and said the army was hunting down "terrorists" who carry out a deadly attack on a police station in October.

Foreign journalists and independent researchers have banned verify what happened in Rakhine state located in the northern part bordering Myanmar and Bangladesh.

Hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets last week in Jakarta to call for the government to sever diplomatic relations with Myanmar.

In addition, Sunday (27/11/2016), the police have also arrested a suspected militant linked to the militant group ISIS, which is about to bomb the Myanmar embassy in Jakarta.

Suu Kyi had been due to visit Indonesia after a trip to Singapore, from 30 November to 2 December.

However, a senior official said the Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs, postponed visit to Indonesia.

"We're delaying the trip Indonesia because of the problems in Rakhine and Shan state" in which the army was fighting militants, said Deputy Director General Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, Aye Aye Soe.

"The schedule of visits will be reset in the near future," he said, denying that the delay was due to safety concerns.



Some 30,000 Rohingyas have fled their homes in Myanmar. They are not recognized as citizens, do not get pelayanankesehatan, education, and space is limited.

The Bangladesh government said thousands of ethnic Rohingya today gathered at the border. Dhaka refused international demands urging him to allow Rohingya entry.

Even Dhaka called for Myanmar to do more to stop people Rohingyas fled to Bangladesh or out of Myanmar.

On Monday, the Bangladesh border guards have turned back eight boats containing Rohingya people who want to cross the Naf river toward southern Bangladesh.
