Men who paid for intercourse with a 100 Woman Sentenced to 2 Years in prison



A32News - Eric Aniva, the man accused of having sex with 100 women and children, on Tuesday (22/11/2016) was sentenced to two years in prison.

Malawi court stated Eric acts as a dangerous act, especially the man was diagnosed with the deadly virus, HIV.

"I was sentenced 24 months in prison," said Judge Innocent Nebi to Eric in the courtroom in a remote region in southern Nsanje District, Malawi.

On Friday, Eric has been found guilty on two counts role in a one-day trial.

In response to this verdict, Aniva, told AFP, still feeling his innocence. "I'm disappointed because I thought I would get a surety," he said.

Previously, Eric admitted having sex as part of a ritual "cleansing" traditional. For each of these rituals are performed, he was getting paid four dollars-seven dollars, or Rp 62,000 to Rp 91,000.

The man's 45 years was also dragged to court after publicly acknowledge its role as a "hyena", a documentary film made in the BBC.

The documentary is sparking protests of the people in Malawi who led President Peter Mutharika ordered police to catch Eric in July.

In the case that for the first time in Malawi's trial, the court ruled Eric guilty. The trial in Nsanje District was filled with visitors.

"It is clear that the state has been very convinced that the defendant committed a dangerous practice," said Nebi judge, passing sentence on Friday.

"I decided you were guilty and sentencing is appropriate," said the judge.

The trial's sentencing will be held on 22 November, and Eric could face up to five years in prison.

However, prosecutors Chiyembekezo Banda want a longer prison sentence because Eric is considered responsible for the spread of HIV.

It was even more so considering the Malawi is one of the country's most heavily populated with HIV, with 27,000 people died from AIDS-related illnesses, and as many as nine percent of the adult population is infected with HIV.

Meanwhile, Eric's attorney, Michael Goba Chipeta, asked the court not to punish his client.

Eric Chipeta request was being victimized and said, publicity about him already being a punishment.

"I do not worry about being judged. I guess I would be given a suspended sentence," Eric said when police herded toward the cell.

Eric's second wife, Sophia, was at the hearing. She was seen crying and refusing to talk to the press that came to him.

Eric is alleged to have slept with at least 104 women, the youngest 12 years old, in a ritual that lasted for three days.

In the southern region of Malawi, people still run a culture that asks a man dubbed the "hyena" sex to ward off evil spirits and prevent the arrival of death.

Typically, a "hyena" also asked a family to have sex with the girls, after their first menstruation, as a sign of the girl has become a woman.

A ritual that has been increasingly abandoned the citizens of Malawi, was once believed to be beneficial to train the girls a good wife as well as protect them from diseases and misfortunes.
